What a waste

How can we help solve the global waste problem?

Global waste is expected to increase to 3.4 billion tonnes by 2050, increasing by over 50% from how much waste we produce now.

Students must tackle this problem through examining the main sources of waste from our community and then by developing a product or solution to reduce how much waste we produce and dispose of articulate their contention through a comparative essay

and a debate

Key tasks

  • School rubbish audit. To bring the problems of waste closer to home, students will audit an average rubbish bin to determine where most of our daily waste comes from and, if they could reduce waste, where they should start

  • Product design. Students must design a solution and prototype to help us better dispose of or reduce our waste
