Going Viral

How can we prevent the spread of life-threatening viruses?

Students must explore the origins of COVID-19 and its impact on our health, considering how the human body and out internal systems respond to and attempt to fight off pathogens.

Using what they learn, students must develop a public health strategy to help fight the pandemic and must compare different health strategies from around the world to determine which country has responded in the most suitable way

Key tasks

  • The spread of viruses. Students explore where pathogens live, how long they can survive on different surfaces, and how they spread from person to person through a series of experiments

  • Defeating viruses. Students explore how our immune system helps fight off pathogens and how antibiotics or antiviral medication or vaccines can have the same effect
