Big Australia

How can we keep Big Australia sustainable and liveable?

Students are presented with the problem of a rapidly-expanding population. They will study the impact of rapid urbanisation & migration patterns on liveability and a city’s ecological footprint.

Drawing on case studies from around the world, students will re-design a city to better cater for an increasing population and reduce its environmental impact

Key tasks

  • Urbanisation case studies. Students will explore the challenges being faced by different cities around the world as they undergo rapid urbanisation

  • A sustainable city. Students will explore the relationship between rising populations and declining sustainability. They will experiment with creating a water filtration device to catch and recycle water in urban residences
